If you’re reading this, you’re a friend of literature, and it’s likely in this past year you joined Louisville Literary Arts for the InKY Reading Series or at the Writer’s Block Festival. Our mission at LLA is to engage readers and writers in order to enrich the literary arts in Louisville, and since 2004 we have been doing just that!
Here’s what your donations supported this year:
- The inaugural Writer’s Block Festival on October 15 turned the East Market district into a block for over 250 readers and writers with numerous free events including a print festival of regional independent publishers; workshops on creative writing; panel discussions about screenwriting, MFA programs, and breaking into literary publishing; and readings by local and nationally-renowned authors.
- The InKY Reading Series has welcomed over 100 different writers from cities nationally, including Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Austin, Portland, St. Louis, Nashville, Boston, Indianapolis, and Cincinnati. And, of course, the best Kentucky writers, like Frank X. Walker, Silas House, Maurice Manning, Crystal Wilkinson, Anne Shelby, Sarah Gorham, Jim Tomlinson, Eric Reese, and Jane Gentry Vance. We are also proud to have been the first public reading for numerous emerging writers in the region.
Your donation will ensure such programming continues in the coming year. Louisville’s literary community is diverse and extensive; we are a city of poets, screenwriters, best-selling novelists, essayists, historians, and literary chroniclers of all types. And we are a city of readers who support independent publishing, local bookstores, and local authors.
